1 Malaysia – Moving Beyond Racial Boundaries
Fifty three years has past since our forefathers, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Tan Siew Sin and Tun VT Sambanthan fought for Independence. What was in their mind was to ensure we were free from the British colonisation and we were a sovereign nation. It never alluded in their mind that they were Malay,Chinese or Indian by ethinicity ,what was more important to them was they were Malaysian First .
But come this Merdeka, have our beloved nation achieved the same level of unity that we had in the past ?
Premier YAB Dato Sri Najib’s 1 Malaysia concept introduced last year is an effort that is transformational to reunite and take us back to the level of unity that we once enjoyed. But Is he getting all the support for this initiate?
I remember the days when Dato Lee Chong Wei won the All England Championship. We were all glued to the TV watching yet another Malaysian achievement. Never did we mind that he was a Malaysian Chinese. By the same token, Dato Magendran and Dato Mohanadass who succeeded in the Mt. Everest climb, yet another truly Malaysian football team comprising the legendary Mokhtar Dahari , Santokh Singh , Dato Soh Chin Ann and R.Arumugam who made Malaysians proud with the teams ability to take on the England Team and the South Koreans.
Albeit all this positive characteristic of a Malaysian achievement, the statement made by Dato Nasir Safar, a senior officer in PM’s office, the recent statement by a school principal in Kulai asking the Chinese students to go back to China and abusing Indian students about their religious beliefs and the incidence in Kedah reminds us that despite the bonding of 53 years we remain polarised by what ethinicity we belong to despite all our Malaysianes.
Remember we grew up having the teh tarik, nasi lemak ,roti canai and the kueh teow that we forgot their origins and in turn term this delicacies as a Malaysian food. Even vadai and puthu mayam is now sold by a Malay vendor when they had a different origin.
So what has really gone wrong over the years?
I was a part-time lecturer at a prime public university and had the opportunity to see how polarisation at universities has affected the student’s race relations. Time has come for students at beginning from primary schools are thought about respecting each others religion, culture and believes. Our multi cultural diversity and uniqueness among us is an advantage that can be harnessed to make Malaysia to greater heights. Each community in Malaysia has its strength and this strength in diversity has to be exploited to maximum to make the concept of 1 Malaysia a success. Lets walk the talk !
Many initiatives by Premier YAB Dato Seri Najib like the New Economic Model(NEM) ,The Tenth Malaysian Plan,The Government Transformation Plan are remarkable grand plans but the success of this plans is highly dependent on how we Malaysians of diverse ethnicity truly live to being Malaysian First. Not too many countries in the world who enjoy the diversity that we have and our failure to benefit from this will only be disastrous for our beloved nation. In not too distance future when the history is forgotten, what will be the state of our country ?
The staff of public service being the main drivers of the government ,should be re-trained on the 1Malaysia concept to ensure they utter the right word when addressing all communities and send out the right messages.
Many a times the wrong signals has been send and this hurts our race relations. The 1 Malaysia concept must be culturised i.e practice what is preached ,otherwise it will remain a slogan.
Reflecting on our 53th Merdeka, we need a team of Mokthar Dahari,Dato Soh Chin Aun , Santokh Singh and R.Arumugam with the burning spirit of Tunku Andul Rahman to make Malaysia a model country uniting in diversity to take on the world and remain economically competitive. Merdeka,Merdeka, Merdeka

Denyutan Nadi Rakyat Penentu PRU 13

MIC Deserves 2nd Ministers Post

Now with the Hulu Selangor by election tucked in its pocket albeit a lower margin than the expected 6000 majority, the MIC can be proud of its achievements in drawing back the indian communities support that it lost in the 12th General Election in March 2008. With the support of IPF and the newly minted Makkal Sakthi things can only get better.
The last three by elections ie Bukit Selambau, Bagan Pinang and Hulu Selangor indicate that the indian community is still in need of the basic amenities ie shelter, food, bc, ic, citizenship issues , welfare and so forth. It is pathetic that some estates which is close to major towns like sg petani, port dickson and kuala lumpur are still having indians without this basic needs and if the problem is taken in totality nationwide it is a significant problem that need to be addressed.
Having spend considerable time in all this constituencies, I must share that by- election goodies are adhoc measures and a complete blue print need to be drawn to see the long term resolution to this issues. More need to be done on a continous basis to win the hearts of the indians in dilapidated estates and slumps.
PM Najib Tun Razak just completed his one year as premier and wants to go the 13th polls to get the full mandate to effectively run the country. According to the the Edge weekly this could come as early as QI or Q2 of 2011. Given the voting trends in the 12th general election and the 3 by elections it is clear that the indians are surely returning back to BN but the BN needs and overwheling support from MIC and the indian community to compensate for the expected loss from the erosion of votes from chinese community and others.
What the 2nd Ministers post can do for BN and MIC?
Tradionationally MIC had two ministers post in Transport Minister Tan Sri Manickavasagam and Law minister Datuk Athi Nahapan. The demise of Datuk Athi Nahapan, the situation changed and MIC had one ministers post ever since Dato Seri S. Samy Vellu helmed the presidency of MIC. It is acknowledged that the current Human Resources Minister, Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam has been discharging his ministerial job well and enjoys cordial relationship with PM, however given the multi-facet issues surrounding the community, he has more than he can chew.
Now that the cabinet reshuffle is imminent with the completion of the MCA election, PM Dato Seri Najib has an opportunity to reward the indian community with another ministerial appointment (Note:Dato G. Palanivel is to be sworn in as senator on monday). Both Datuk Dr Subra and Dato G Palanivel ( if appointed minister) can raise the community's concern and address them concretely and on a systematic basis to resolve many of the long outstanding issues.
The second ministerial appointment can also act as a political strategy to win over the hard core indians who are still not happy with government and this in return will further strengthen the Indians support for the Najib's administration. Will this be in the mind of the PM as he draws the best team to be in team heading into the 13th General Election ?

Hulu Selangor : High Stakes For BN
Finally the mystery surronding the BN Candidate for Hulu Selangor was resolved when Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhiyiddin Yassin named P. Kamalanathan as the candidate. So it is P Kamalanathan versus Dato Zaid Ibrahim
While it was a high drama before the candidature was resolved, there must be a better way of choosing a candidate for a general election given that BN has been facing elections and by elections year after year.
Now BN has its work cut out in Hulu Selangor given its parlimentary constituenty being located and spread in three states mainly Selangor,Perak and Pahang. All MIC branch Chairmans must come together given that it is the party and BN that matters at the end not any individuals.
Now who is P. Kamalanathan? He is a former Selayang MIC Youth Leader, appointed by MIC Party President, Dato Seri Samy Vellu as the Information Chief after the 63rd MIC AGM in September 2009. He has been very active during his youth days as i was his deputy division youth chief for one term before i became a branch chairman.
He has been actively posting information about MICs activities since he assumed the info chief post. P. Kamalanathan has a degree in mass communication from Edith Cowan University and works a Public Relations Manager with Beras Jati Sdn Bhd
The BN machinery is in full gear to work hard to ensure a sweet victory for BN although it is not going to be easy as Kamalathan said in his speech that he is new in the constituency and need all the support from all voters.
Time is ripe for the Hulu Selangor voters to decide whether they want a young, energetic person like P kamalnathan to deliver the unfilled duties left by the former (deseased )PKR MP Dato Zainal or voter from the unkept promises party PKR
It is a do or die mission for BN. The mission is possible given the rakyat open their eyes and see the reality.

1 Malaysia New Economic Model ?
Prime Minister and Finance Minister YAB Dato Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak is scheduled to unveil the Ne w Economic Model (NEM) this Tuesday, one of the many economic initiates that is expected to move the nation to a high income nation.
Original Intentions Retained ?
While the NEM can be effectively used as an opportunity to return to the original intentions of The New Economic Policy (NEP) which was initiated in 1971, many challenges face the government of the day i.e balancing the demands of the voters who rebelled in March 2008 12th General Election, the demands of the investing community and the demands of the group who champion the Malay rights NGO like Perkasa.
It is clearly apparent that the governments stimulus package has not yet trickle in albeit the sluggish economy recovery due to the slack period which is expected to show its impact in the third quarter of the year, The Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) has fallen from RM62billion in 2008 to RM32.6billion in 2009. This calls for further boosting of private consumer spending which is the key driver to boost the sluggish economy. Will there be measures to increase the disposal income of the rakyat to spur private consumer spending?
The Prime Minister has spoken frequently of his plan to take the nation to the next level moving to high income nation i.e increasing the income per capita to US15000. This initiate is a huge task ahead as the country’s labour force and skilled work force are far fetched from the desired income level. To reduce the income disparity gap, the government need to train many skilled work force and professionals to take up jobs and possess the skills that will fetch high income levels. To further support this initiate the government needs to systematically plan and budget its spending on human capital development albeit a herculean task.
The Najib administration has just in less than 6 months ago initiated the Government’s Transformation Plan (GTP) enlisting 6 NKRA and NKPI to propel the nation to address and further strengthen the areas that require immediate attention in its efforts to “culturise“ The 1Malaysia concept , People First, Performance Now. There is clear indication that the Najib administration is moving fast to catch up with lost time to create the quantum leap transformation to make Malaysia a competitive nations as neighbours Indonesia, Thailand and Philipines are slowly but surely catching up and will pose a treat to Malaysia. The Prime minister ‘s recent visits to Hongkong to meet the investing community has been well received and Credit Suise has forecasted a 6% economy growth as compared to Bank Negara 5.6%
PERKASA’s Demand Reasonable ?
Will the Prime Minister bow to the unreasonable pressure from groups who champion the Malay rights like NGO PERKASA who claim that the Malays and Bumiputeras should be allocated 67% of the nations economic wealth. They claim to have the Malays who represent 55% of the voters backing them. The Premier’s will to transform the nation is being challenged by his political conduits. To spur the nation to be competitive, The PM needs to address the needs of the business community among which:
· Further improve the governments machineries effectiveness by cutting red tapes and boosting productivity
· decreasing the cost of the doing business in Malaysia which will induce FDIs
· Increase Skill and Knowledge based economy by quantum leaping human capital development
· Boosting Promotion of Malaysia overseas
Equitable Income Distribution Key To Success of 1 Malaysia
Facts point to Malaysia having the highest income disparity in South East Asia, top 10% of the society holding 38.4% of the nations wealth (2004 figures)
Will the NEM be a etchnic based affirmative action plan or will it address to reduce the inter etchnic income disparity in line with the now famous 1 Malaysia and keeping with the original intentions of NEP ie to eradicate poverty of all Malaysia, to restructure the society and promote national unity ? NEM provides another opportunity for the government to meet the expectation of the rakyat before the next polls, will its political will decide the destiny of the nation!

Who speaks For Indians? A response to Terence Fernandez Down2Earth Column
I read with great interest the latest article written by Mr Terence Fernandez under the Column Down2Earth on the article “Who Speaks For Indians”.
While your input and suggestions are welcomed, I think it is unfair to say that MIC has not done anything for the Indians in its efforts to uplift the The Indian Community.
What about the millions spent on disbursements of study loans, micro-credit business loans, Tekun Business Loans, assistance provided to single mothers, rehabilitation of people with health problems etc to name a few. Was all this done by individuals or MIC?
MIC helps people who needs assistance wherever possible thru the Presidents office, division and branches and through its wings and associated establishments. Many of its leaders who do not hold any positions in the council, DUN or Parliament use their own transport incur time and money and through little donations assist the needy. Is this not selfless service?
I was at the Launch of the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) last December at Sunway Convention Centre. The leader who you said was invited to the stage was invited because is the leading MIC as it was also to reflect the 1Malaysia concept.
Why are you so selective of this leader? What about a leader of the BN component party who lost the whole state to the opposition and made a senator, a minister who was also at the stage ?
MIC has acknowledged its weaknesses and has taken steps to reconnect with the people with training for its branch, state and national leaders through various programmes. Only a party that has a passion for the community will rebuild itself.
While I admit MIC can do and will do more, the new generation leaders and the team elected in September 2009 party election will work with the leadership to come up with comprehensive programmes to further uplift the community.
I welcome u to visit many of the MIC programmes to find out what is actually going on the ground to enable you to do a fair and correct reporting.

Dato Nazir Safar, A Misfit in Govt Administration?Get Rid of other Dato Nasir in the Govt Administration
The special assistant to the PM YAB Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak, Dato Nasir Safar remarks that the Indians came to Malaysia as beggars and the chinese especially the ladies came here to sell their bodies AND HENCE THEIR CITIZENSHIP SHOULD BE REVOKED is an unacceptable remarks especially from someone who holds a high office at the PM's office and someone who should be going around explaning the PM's policies instead of drawing flaks from the rakyat
Our PM since coming into office has been walking the talk with his 1Malaysia concept to draw back the lost grounds in GE12 and working very hard to get back the votes from the Indian and chinese who are seen as the group who can sway the votes back to the governments favour.
Alas the statement by Dato Nazir at this time is like pouring oil into fire whilst th PM is working hard to draw the rakyat his way.
Is Nazir an enemy of the 1Malaysia concept, is he a misfit in the govt administration?, does he has his own agenda? or is he a proxy for someone to instil disunity in our multiethnic society. Only the investigation will reveal why he did what he did.
Praises to Dato Seri Najib's administration for implementing many good plans and policies like the 1Malaysia concept, Government Transformation Programme (GTP, the yet to be announced New Economic Model etc. But what good is all this good policies and plans if the government has officers like Dato Nasir Safar as implementers?
With GE13 around the corner it is time the BN govt work strategically to reconnect with the vote swayers as headways has been made by MIC to woo back the Indian votes.
It is time the govt relooks at its administration as there could be many Dato Nazir Safar in the administration who are not implementing the govt policies as devised by the govt instead hurt the feelings of the fixed deposit votes.

The government has drawn a very ambitious plan. While skeptics are not overall convinced of the grand plan, the man behind PEMANDU, Dato Seri Idris Jala, a turnaround manager at Shell Malaysia and move recently Malaysian Airlines, has a reputation for delivery, hence there is a chance for breakthrough. Yet again this is a chance for PM, YAB Dato Seri Najib to deliver his promises made at 100 days of his office. The GTP is a pre-cursor to GE 13 and if the Government could show some success it has the rakyat’s support. Let’s give PEMANDU and the Government a chance to prove itself.

Utusan Malaysia Pejuang 1 Malaysia ?

Train & Place programme in Melaka & PD

I did the closing for the Train and Place programme sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource at Port Dickson on 2 dec 2009. This programme was for IT Office Administrators and IT Technicians. over 80 students (40 in PD) and another 40 in Malacca completed their one month course and they are currently being employed.
This training was conducted by Beam Advisory and Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd, an approved Training Provider approved by Human Resource Ministry. The students enjoyed their training where they were taught various IT skills and they are enjoyed the company of their fellow colleagues.
The HR Ministry's noble plan to train unemployed youth and subsequently place them is indeed a laudlable move. Bravo Datuk Dr Subra.

Indians must move beyond race, caste and ethnicity to be a unified force
The concept of 1Malaysia was launched by PM Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak after taking over as the 6th Prime Minister of the country on April 9, 2009. The concept promises to unite all malaysia as Bangsa Malaysia with fair treatment for all races and the it promises that no one race slhould be left out in the country's development process.
In view of the 1Malaysia concept it is high time that the Indian community in Malaysia who have always been divided according to sub race be it tamil, telugu , malayalee etc and caste(a practice inherited from our origin, India)to unite as one force as Malaysian Indians. Given the cultural diversity amongst us this should be made a plus point.
The MIC Unity and Committee Development Committee chairman S. Vell Paari echoed his sentiment on this yesterday and his attempt to unite all of them through discussion with various groups should be lauded.
It is high time the Indians from various ethnic group and caste put their differences behind and instead concentrate of taking advantage of the available economic opportunities to uplift the socio economic standing of the community. Infighting amongst the groups must be avoided or at least minimised at all cost.
It is like wheather we want to win a battle or a war. The Indian community must find the niche and proritize what is important and avoid dwelling on trivial matters which does not in any way benefit the community. Looking at the bigger picture will almost help them achieve higher economic and social standing.
The Hindraf action in November 2007 opened up the plight of the Indian community and now with the release of the Hindraf five its is the right time and platform to discuss common community issues and find long term solution to it, rather than crying foul on being marginalised. We do not need more political parties or ngos as there are many in existence already.
The Indians have a large pool of professionas be it doctors, lawyers ,engineers, accountants etc. This pool of talent should be leveraged to undertake reforms within the community. Our ancestors once came here as traders but where are we now?. Help will be there for those who help themself. Lets get united fellow malaysian indians. A United Malaysian Indians united force can eventually lead to the success of 1Malaysia.

Tunggu dan lihat kerana it’s a “do or die mission “ untuk MIC.

One Malaysia, what is the rakyat's expectation?
Malaysians are lucky people because we have Malay, Indians and Chinese with various racial, religions diversities. This diversity must be unified to achieve National unity – i.e. the concept of 1 Malaysia. The differences are in fact critical success factors of our beloved nation Malaysia.
With changing times, our national unity have been divided by many ways and forms by those who do not really bother about unity of the people in the great country Malaysia.
Time has come for us to foster unity among races and be coherent as 1 Malaysia – one vision, one nation, one country and one dream a family Malaysia. The government of YAB Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak is conscious and taking all effort to pull people of all races together. If we don’t change we will be changed.
Ways to be a 1 Malaysia family:
1.Openness for equally opportunity.
The habit of subsidies should be stopped. The PM has started emphasizing this. People who put in their effort should be rewarded and opportunity should be given to all Malaysian. Those who are hardworking and resourceful should benefit. This openness will transcent racial imbalances.
2.Open up the government and corporate sector to all Malaysians.
The number of non – Malays in government linked companies are not proportionate to the number of Indian and Chinese. This goes also to government sector. The loss educated often finds it so difficult to communicate to the officers as they do not have officers who can speak their language. Let be the best serve the rakyat. Just imagine how efficient we can get when we have best to serve the best.
3.Balancing non – Malays in Police and Army.
All the time we need that not many non – Malays are in the police and army. Make sure police and army increase intake of non – Malays and as well university reserve army and police have more non – Malays. This can really help faster national unity.
4.Abolish racial quotas.
People of all races despite their race and religions should be helped so that the disadvantaged will helped. This all help national unity hence truly reflect 1 Malaysia.
5.Create a 1 Malaysia sports.
Sports can be used to unity the diversified and polarized communities. It is high time the government consider 1 Malaysia sports at local communities around the country. This will help faster polarization in vernacular schools, colleges, universities and communities.
6.Give all communities what they deserves
In the destitution of the government wealth destitution the government should be transparent in distribution what each community deserves. Like the Indians, should given their right full 7 – 8 %, likely wise the Malays & Chinese. This will prevent discontentment over their requirements.
7.Meritocracy.
There are two ways to award scholarship and university placed i.e. Clear guideline must be drawn so that this process can be transparent.

Micro Credit Financing, a catalyst for SME Growth
Will the second stimulus package to be annouced by Finance Minister and deputy premier YB Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak on 10 March 2009 take into consideration the problems faced by the small and medium size enterprises?
In all fairness the peole are expecting the government to be transparent with its economic data and not run the country in a state of denial despite the world economic turmoil. Question are being raised at dinner tables on how long will this slowdown last, 18 months says one economist, 2 years says another. One analyst say the US is already facing the slowdown last 2 years and we Malaysians have the delayed effect and as such have not seen the impact yet. Hence, the upcoming second stimulus package will be looked upon by many to suatain our economy. Will it be 10b or 20b package. I anticipate a RM15B package as the government need time to continously assess the world situation and fix the remedies continously. Another stimulus package can be introduced later if necessary.
The small and medium size enterprises (SMEs)fall into many categories as SMEs can be as big as micro business to businesses up to RM10-20 million. The fact remain that many economies SMEs account for up to 60% of the GDP and thus giving focus to this area in any stimulus package will be the step in the right direction as it has direct multiplier effect to the malaysian economy.
Given that the meltdown has caused many SMEs to face challenging cash flow problems the focus should be to provide this enterprises with micro and medium size loans i.e to give them breathing space.many of this enterprises have good business models but due to irregular collection patterns they are unable sustain their business.
The govt introduced the Tekun loan scheme up to RM10,000 with 3 years payment pattern with 4% interst. Many startups and micro enterprises benefited from this but the slow processing period have not helped them.
Many people approach me for this loan aand thru my service center we submitted application as far back in November but todate we have not received any news on the status of the loan. The slow turnaround time hampers micro business growth.
Hence i would like to propose a three tier SME loans be introduced as part of the second stimulus package to be unvielde next week. firstly to address the micro entreprise in addition to tekun loan introduce a micro credit loan up to 5Ok, secondly to address SMEs in the next group financial assistance up to RM 1m and to address the bigger SMEs cashflow other loan schemes need to be envisaged.

Battle of the Bukits: A weak BN against A battered PKR

After the aftermath of the Kuala Trengganu parlimentary elections and the perak government takeover of Perak, the battle between the bn and the PKR blooms again , this time up north at Bukit gantang parlimetentary seat and Bukit selambau kedah state seat. it is commonly known that PKR had the upper hand after victory in KT but sadly the maverick behind PKR Dato seri Anwaronly concentrated on defections from bn to pkr and not vice versa. The defections strategy adopted by DSAI since the PKR resounding victory become their own downfallwhen the bota assemblyman purpotely ied in what happen in perak deflecting to PKR made a turnaround and together with three other and defected to BN. BN made a claim and took over the perak state alas the ongoing legal battle in the hands of the malaysian courts.
On the ground, the man in the street is dissatisfied with what happen in perak claiming that their democratic rights were robbed. People who i talk to are somewhat tired and not bother about politics any more.
The Bn on the other hand despite its failure in recent by elections has failed to change their 'modus operandi' radically. The latest being an UMNO division leader requesting for UMNO to contest a traditionally MIC allocated Bukit Selambau seat claiming that UMNO stands a better change to wrest the seat. For BN to strengthen itself, this must stop.
Given the status of a weak BN and a battered PKR, the voters of the bukits has to take this byelections seriously as it will reflect the mood of the rakyat. This by-elections is equally important for teh Prime Minister in waiting YB DS Najib razak who shall assume umno presidency and the premier post in March. Will he be able to turn the face of BN ?
As a 28 year old member of a BN component party there is a need for BN to be able to reach the rakyat and put up a Malaysian face appealling to all msians. BN must stop internal qualms on its candidates and work all the time to serve the people, not only during elections and by elections. The rakyat do not have appeal for the benefitsflloded to them during eklections and bye elections. IT must study the youth thinking and voting patterns.
The PKR on the other hand need to organise itself strategically and scrutinise its candidates credibility. Gone are days where the rakyat will accept a postman,a photographer as a candidate. a matured malaysian democracy is in the making. Will malaysia be able to have a strong two party system inplace to provide alternative in governing an orderly nation ? Will we see Obama like politics here? This is the agenda of change we must pursue......it may be a destination and not a journey too far but it starts at the battle of the Bukits.
